Eevee

What is it?

Eevee is Blender’s real-time render engine designed for fast, interactive rendering of 3D scenes. Rather than path tracing, Eevee uses rasterization together with screen-space effects, shadow maps, and light probes to approximate lighting, shadows, and materials. This makes Eevee ideal for look-dev, previews, and animation iteration in 3D modeling and production, but less physically accurate than Cycles for final renders that require correct global illumination or caustics.

Practical example

Imagine you are a 3D student creating a short interior animation. You use Eevee to quickly test material settings and lighting: you enable bloom and motion blur for style, turn on contact shadows for small occlusions, and place irradiance volumes or light probes to bake indirect lighting for static objects. Because Eevee is real-time, you can render frames quickly for previews and even use it for final renders if a stylized look is acceptable; however, for physically accurate global illumination or caustics you would switch to Cycles for the final output.
